Hotel Bedsheet Buying Guide: GSM, Fabric & What Hotels Should Look For

Hotel bedsheets get washed after almost every single guest — sometimes daily. A sheet that feels fine in a home bedroom for a year can look tired and thin after eight weeks of industrial laundering. If you're buying for a hotel, guesthouse or homestay, here's what actually matters.

GSM: the number that predicts durability

GSM (Grams per Square Metre) measures how densely the fabric is woven. For hospitality use, higher GSM generally means the sheet survives repeated hot-water washing and industrial ironing without thinning out or pilling.

Fabric type: percale vs sateen for hospitality

Both work, but they behave differently under commercial laundry conditions:

For high-turnover properties (budget/mid-range hotels, guesthouses, homestays), percale cotton is usually the more practical, longer-lasting choice.

Colour: white isn't just tradition

There's a practical reason most hotels stick to white or light solid colours: stains are visible immediately (so housekeeping catches them before a sheet goes back into rotation), and white sheets can be bleached during commercial laundering to stay looking fresh — something you can't do with printed or dark-coloured sheets without fading them.

Standard hotel bed sizes

Most Indian hotel double beds are sized around 230 x 250 cm for the flat sheet, which comfortably covers a standard double/queen mattress with enough overhang to tuck. Always confirm your exact mattress dimensions before ordering in bulk — hotel bed sizes vary more than home beds do.
