Fabric Comparison: Cotton vs Linen vs Polyester vs Silk
Fabric decides how a bedsheet feels, how a curtain drapes, and how long a towel lasts. Here's how the four most common home-furnishing fabrics actually compare.
Cotton
The most popular choice for Indian homes, and for good reason.
Feel: Soft, breathable, gets softer with every wash.
Best for: Bedsheets, towels, everyday curtains.
Care: Machine washable, shrinks slightly on the first wash — always check the size guide with this in mind.
Watch out for: Wrinkles easily unless it's a blend or a sateen/percale weave.
Made from flax fibre, prized for its texture and breathability.
Feel: Slightly textured, cool to the touch — ideal for hot, humid weather.
Best for: Summer curtains, light bedsheets.
Care: Wrinkles more than cotton; a relaxed, lived-in wrinkle is part of linen's look.
Watch out for: Usually priced higher than cotton.
Polyester
A synthetic fabric valued for durability and easy care.
Feel: Smooth, holds colour and print well.
Best for: Blackout curtains, budget bedsheets, high-traffic items like doormats.
Care: Barely wrinkles, dries fast, very low maintenance.
Watch out for: Less breathable than natural fibres — can feel warm in peak summer.
Silk & silk-blends
The most luxurious option, usually reserved for special pieces.
Feel: Smooth, lightweight, has a natural sheen.
Best for: Statement curtains, decorative cushions.
Care: Needs gentle/dry cleaning — not for daily-use items like towels or everyday bedsheets.
Watch out for: Higher price, more delicate than the other three.
What fabric are our curtains?
Nearly every curtain we stock is either a satin eyelet or a velvet weave. Satin has a soft sheen and drapes lightly - a good everyday choice for most rooms. Velvet is heavier, blocks more light, and gives a richer, more formal look - better suited to bedrooms or winter use than a sunny balcony door.
Quick pick
For everyday bedsheets and towels — cotton. For a breathable summer look — linen. For blackout curtains or budget picks — polyester. For an occasional statement piece — silk-blend.
